The Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye from Kyle of Lochalsh

Skye is one of Scotland's most well known Isles. Deeply romantic scenery for the romantics and yet also wildy exciting and challenging for those of a more sporty persuasion, the Isle of Skye has something for every visitor. Skye can satisfy the needs of any vacation! Popular among mountaineers and rock climbers the world over are the Cuillins, a range of challenging jagged mountains that dominate Skye. The Cuillin ridge gives a wonderful backdrop to the soft sandy beaches, inlets and bays that abound.

Skye is a Gaelic island in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland with more in common with the Outer Hebrides than the Scottish mainland. The Gaelic culture and heritage add to the uniqueness of the Isle of Skye which has been refeered to often in song and poetry, sometimes as "Eilean a' Cheò" (which means The Misty Isle). Of all the songs about Skye one of the most popular is the "Skye Boat Song" which celebrates part of the romantic story of Bonnie Prince Charlie and Flora MacDonald.

Virtual Skye hopes to entice you to visit Skye for a vacation and we hope that you enjoy your visit to our site.

Duisdale House Hotel is a former hunting lodge set in the Garden of Skye, and was used by the Clan Chief of The MacDonalds in days of old.

Located in the south of the island, the hotel commands stunning, panoramic views overlooking the Sound of Sleat to the mainland mountains and beyond. Once a grand Victorian lodge it is undergoing extensive refurbishment and, when complete in early spring 2008, will have a luxurious, contemporary feel which will blend seamlessly with the historic building and gardens.
